Welcome to the TJ Stellar Strings!

TJEMS is unique within BCPSS in its offering of instrumental string music classes, being one of only a handful of schools with such a program. Begun in 2011, The TJ Stellar Strings has grown each year. In 2019-2020 we had 70 students participating! String classes are offered in violin, viola and cello and beginners are welcome in any grade. Instruments are available for loan from the school without a fee. A nominal fee covers needed string class supplies and classes are held weekly during a resource class time slot.

Our Honors Ensemble meets once or twice weekly before school to study more challenging music. This ensemble is open by audition to second year students and above.

The TJ Stellar Strings and Honors Ensemble perform during our yearly Winter and Spring Concerts. Additional performance opportunities are also scheduled including performances at the BCPSS School Board meetings, the Hunting Ridge Community Assemblies and special school events. We have even performed at the Hippodrome and at WTMD Studio!

I have been an instrumental string teacher with BCPSS for 30 years. I am a violist who has performed in the Washington/Baltimore area for many years and had performed with the Baltimore Opera Company for over 20 years. I also teach viola at Towson University!

I love teaching strings and I look forward to having string classes with your child!
