My name is Chetina Long,
and I am the sixth-grade Mathematics, Science, and Health teacher here at amazing
Thomas Jefferson Elementary/Middle School. This will be my third year at TJEMS.
I grew up in Baltimore City where I attended various public schools before
graduating from Francis M. Wood Senior High. I studied at Coppin State University
where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. I continued
graduate studies at Coppin State University and had a Master of Science in Criminal
Justice Administration conferred to me. Later, I attended and graduated from the
University of Baltimore’s Master’s degree in Human Services Administration
program. I am currently pursuing a Master of Art in Teaching with a focus on
Special Education from the University of Maryland Notre Dame.
Although my educational
background is in Criminal Justice and Human Services, I have many years of
experience working with children in various capacities within the Baltimore
City Public School System. I have previously participated in the
facilitation of the girl’s group which is an after school extra-curricular
activity at Thomas Jefferson and have hopes to continue in the future. I
love what I do and take educating our children very seriously. I believe as an
educator you should meet the students where they are and help build on their strengths
from that point. A person who has never made a mistake never tried anything
new and will never know what they can achieve because success is most often reached
through failure.
